Macomb County Community Mental Health Announces New Director of Recipient Rights:

Andrew Fortunato takes on the leadership role with nearly 10 years of service

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (August 13, 2025) – Macomb County Community Mental Health (MCCMH) announced today the promotion of Andrew Fortunato to Director of Recipient Rights.

“Fortunato’s extensive experience in the organization and leadership will be vital as he steps into the position of Director of Recipient Rights,” said Traci Smith, CEO of MCCMH. “We are confident that he will continue to uphold our commitment to protecting the rights of the people we serve.”

Previously, Fortunato served as the Network Operations Administrator, where he managed MCCMH’s entire provider network. He directed the provision of services from local providers and was instrumental in supervising the development of mental illness and intellectual and developmental disability provider procurement. As the Director of Recipient Rights, Fortunato will oversee the Office of Recipient Rights, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations while protecting the rights of persons served by MCCMH.

“As I take on this new role, I am honored to advocate for the persons served by MCCMH to make sure they receive the best possible care,” Fortunato stated. “My personal and professional experiences will allow me to effectively support them and contribute to MCCMH’s system of care.”

Fortunato worked in various departments during his nine years at the organization, which provided him with a wealth of experience and knowledge for his new position. He began his career at MCCMH as a Therapist at the Urgent Behavioral Health Center, progressed to an Access Manager conducting phone screenings and medical necessity reviews, and served as a SOR Grant Administrator for the Office of Substance Use. Additionally, Fortunato initiated MCCMH’s Opioid Health Home (now Substance Use Disorder Health Home), a program designed to support those struggling with opioid misuse. He holds both a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and a Master of Social Work (MSW) in Innovation in Community, Policy, and Leadership (I-CPL) from Wayne State University.
