MCCMH Updates

Medicaid Expansion will Save Lives!

The Michigan Legislature is currently considering Medicaid Expansion for our State.  Medicaid Expansion would provide health care, including needed mental health and substance abuse services, to Michigan residents who currently do not have it, including many working families who do not have access to private insurance and currently do not qualify for Medicaid.  MCCMH hosted a Legislative Breakfast earlier this month to provide information to our local Legislators on how the expansion would benefit our community.  Click on the resources below to view the information provided at the event.

Important News for Dual Eligible Persons

Macomb County Community Mental Health (MCCMH) has been selected as a demonstration site for Michigan’s Integrated Care Project, which is intended to strengthen supports and services for persons who are dually eligible for Medicaid and Medicare.

The Integrated Care Project seeks to improve quality and access to care by more effectively aligning Medicare and Medicaid services and by bridging the divide between the physical health, long term care, and behavioral health systems.

“Macomb County Community Mental Health is excited to have this opportunity to work with the State and CMS to develop a model of care that provides smooth and seamless access to services for persons who are dually eligible.  We look forward to working with healthcare and community partners to improve service outcomes for those most in need of care in our community,” says John Kinch, Executive Director of MCCMH.   Read More.

Take Action

The National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare has announced that this week, the U.S. Senate is scheduled to begin debate on legislation to improve mental health care and to address gun violence/background checks. This floor action comes in the wake of last week's Senate hearing on the Mental Illness Awareness and Improvement Act (S. 689), which included elements of the Mental Health First Aid Act, supported by over 500 advocates of community mental health.

Unfortunately, the Excellence in Mental Health Act was not included in that legislation. But now, a bipartisan group of Senators—including bill authors Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Roy Blunt (R-MO)—will offer the Excellence Act as an amendment during Senate debate.

The National Council is urging people to encourage their Senators to vote in favor of the Stabenow-Blunt Amendment on the Senate floor. Take Action.

For more information, go to the National Council website at http://www.thenationalcouncil.org
